I'd much rather have the polite noobs. However in my experience there are 3 types of players out there.
1. Polite noobs
2. Rude noobs
3. Capable players

The arrogant "OMG UR SOOO STOOPID!!!" jerks are noobs too. I haven't met one yet that was truly a good player. They spend all their energy griping and none fighting.

I want a pug made up of people whose goals are the same as mine. This can sometimes be difficult to find. Yesterday I joined a "clearing fow" pug. The leader was advertising in local chat for Nukers and monks to clear fow. I joined and a monk joined. The monk immediately asked if we were doing the forge. We said we were clearing as advertised. He said he only wanted armor. We kicked him. This is someone who probably would have left as soon as he got armor.

I don't mind coaching a new player on their build. If someone pings a horrible build I'll try to make suggestions on improvement rather than kicking. If they throw up a "this build is good, shut up!" attitude they get kicked.

One of the worst noobs I ran into was in RA. (They're all in RA come to think of it). I went in with my warrior, Scarlet Raven. One of my teammates died immediately and I used my Rez sig to bring them back. Another warrior died soon after and he started the usual "rez me NOW!!!!!" garbage. He starting cussing me out in particular because I continued to fight near his corpse instead of stopping to rez him. He continued cussing me out in local chat and telling the other team that they only won because "Scarlet is a stupid noob who can't rez". He just couldn't understand the concept that I was a warrior, not a monk and rez sigs are 1 use only. He continued blasting me in local chat once we returned to the lobby.

On the arrogant but competent side, I did the fow once with a team of ignorant teens once. They were decent players but they spent the entire trip complaining and cussing their parents. The whole time it was garbarge like "my dad is a F*** a-hole. I wish he'd just shoot himself." These kids had serious attitude issues and were no fun to be around. I was glad when the trip was over. Afterwards they said I was a good player and they would add me to their friends list for future trips. I replied, "please don't".

Default i go for the experience and courteous.

I go for the experience and courteous, believe me there are lots of them in the game. beside, I've yet to come across experienced players that are hostile, mostly its the non-experience who think they are experienced that are hostile. at least in my observation PING PING PING (i'm attacking so and so, while the rest of the team are on one side fighting, and you see their health bars goes to zero, lol then comes the hostility, you all idiots! don't know how to work together... )

PS: most interesting observations are warriors who over shot their distance from the monk and when they gets kill, (you are busy killing stuffs, and you notice this players, dashing for the other direction and you knew, he's going to die, and you wait for the drama, lol, human behaviours, pretty funny creatures we are) will most definitely blame the monks. Poor monks! while they are tending to the other 6 players, this one person on the other side of the map expect the monk to run to their rescue... if not, comes the one single vocabulary insult, you idiot! where's the healing....

I don't care how good you are or how high you're rank is. If you're being a douché, I'm not going to bother with you.

If I had to pick one over the other, I'd go with the polite newbie. But I'd prefer a polite, careful and listening newbie over anything that's not a hero or my girlfriend.

well if ur heroes suck, put a good build on them, or ur heros will be just like any other incapable noob, and koss can be a rude arrogant prick sometimes(joke)

Personally, I look for the right attitude if I'm going into a PUG situation. To be successful, a group has to be able to work as a team; and if the right attitude isn't there, no amount of aptitude will prevent the team from falling apart halfway through.

yeah but its freaking annoying when the groups attacking some warrior or necro and theres a monk healing that enemy, so u ping the monk to attack and they all just stay there attacking a necro or something thats just constantly getting re-healed over and over-wich leads to a party whipe when both monks are out of energy.

wich is the reason why i take heros, if i see that monk they attack with me, oh and the better thing about heros and henchies is they rez quicker then the 'EXPERIENCED PLAYERS' and 'THE NOOBS'...so if u want experienced players take heros and 1 pug u know is good, like me and my guild leader and our heros.

Incompitent players frustrate us, Experienced a-hole players make us hate the game...so simple fact is take heros and henchies with good builds

definitely aptitude.

If they're good, and you're good, there's no whining or moaning involved... duh.

Unless you're looking at people who are just in to grief for some odd reason, at which point you can reason they're emulating bad aptitude.

Depends:

There's times I am joining PUGs simply because I want to have some fun and am getting bored of dragging efficient, capable and predictable H/H around with me as I do things when no one among my normal play group is on. In these times I dont really mind the outcome. I just want to play, help random strangers and have some fun. Certainly attitude is what its all about here.

There's other times, albeit quite a bit less frequent, when no one is on and I might be having some trouble with H/H in a certain HM area. Here obviously I'd be seeking aptitude, but I am far more likely to simply wait for a friend or guildie and do something else in the meantime.

I suppose that means I usually seek attitude>aptitude among strangers, unless I am really seeking something to be completed in a PUG (pretty rare for me these days). I'm lucky to have been in guilds though where members were (or are) both really friendly and wonderful to play with as well as very capable.

Golden rule ... anyone or any group calling itself "pro" is best avoided. Had an all "pro" group in gloom once ... took 2 hours instead of 35 minutes. Problem was everyone DID know how to do it but did it a little different than everyone else. Then the pro attitudes kicked in.

I will take heroes or a polite noob over a "pro".

I prefer attitude - have been doing the finial missions for endgame NF - and the last PUG I was in, was amazingly awesome and we were all having a good time, even when we were getting killed we were chuckling, or when we actually beating backside.

OR.. When we lost Kormir... Still dunno how we lost her.

Had to go back out and get her and we kept going "Okay who has Kormir?" "she's with me" "oh now she's with so and so" "Quick everyone but blah blah die so she can follow them!" And we were chuckling the entire time.

It worked out and it was a great time. One of my best expierences with a PuG, they had aptitude as well, but it was more attitude than anything. Plus here's the kicker, everyone was willing to take critique and advice on their builds.

So definitely attitude is everything for me.

I'll take a brilliant, competent asshole over a polite idiot anyday.

You can't always teach idiot to be good, but the jerk won't need to be taught.

/notkidding

If they're bad...well then...I simply won't team with them anyways.

Id say the polite nubs. I mean the only reason id ever pug was for fun (HH can handel anything nowdays) and stuck up ass wipes arnt really fun to play with :/.

As for pvp, newbs cant really get very far, but im not a serious pvp'er anyhow so id go with either choice, both are fun ^^.

Definitely friendlier. I dragged a level 4 through the Maguuma Jungle just because she politely asked for help and used proper spelling. If I'm looking for a good team, I'd take heroes/hench. At least they're good AND silent. They'll attack the monks on command rather than staring at you like a fish out of water.

polite wins for me....people who are rude usually wont listen either since they think THEY are always right (and 4 times out of 10 they are).....I've been in way too many rude pugs with those aholes to avoid them, dont care if they can do the mission in x time, I dont appreciate the attitude or the comments (and if they are taking the time to make those comments they probably arent doing much killing either!)
At least the noobs may learn something! (and I will get to roll on the floor laughing for the next hour!)

Personally I like the 7 Charactors that rarely say anything, you can kick and pick up as you want, and usually do pretty well.

As for real players, I try but I get fed up with missions taking 3 times as long and then everyone else getting blamed because the party didnt work together well.

I do play with people in my alliance who are on vent, people seem to be more polite when you can hear the others voice.

Best post yet....
And I totally agree.... even the friendly newbs can be roffletastic sometimes. Turns out a new member got drafted into my little Guild yesterday... and didn't seem TOO bad though a little slow on the uptake, and for some unfathomable reason had a MAJOR issue with Avicara (the swearing on the Guild channel was quite amusing).
Me and ... admittedly the only other guildie besides the new one.... helped him get a Dire Black Widow in the Underworld.... for his Elementalist.
